Property Description

Eastern Oregon Recreational Timber Property - 320 acres (+/-) - John Day, Oregon - The Back Pasture offers approximately 320 contiguous acres of timbered mountain ground just 12 miles south of John Day, Oregon. Owned by the same family for nearly 70 years, this property is now being offered for sale. Comprised of two adjoining 160-acre tax lots, the property features gated access via Forest Service Road 3920 off Highway 395, perimeter fencing, and an internal two-track road system. Fir and ponderosa pine, native bunchgrasses, and rocky ridgelines create a varied landscape with elevations ranging from approximately 4,970 to 5,350 feet. Several springs, a pond, and habitat for elk, deer, wild turkeys, and other wildlife enhance its recreational appeal, while the southern parcel borders the Malheur National Forest. An approximately 740-square-foot off-grid cabin provides a comfortable base for hunting trips, weekend getaways, and time in the woods. Built in 2000, the cabin features an open kitchen and living area, vaulted ceiling, wood stove, full bathroom, and a loft accessed by an exterior staircase. A developed spring supplies water through a 1,500-gallon cistern, complemented by propane cooking and hot water, solar-powered lighting with battery storage, and an installed septic system. A covered wraparound porch offers space to enjoy the forest setting, making The Back Pasture an inviting Eastern Oregon retreat with established amenities and room to explore.
